- Property tax bills are normally mailed in July. If you have not received a tax bill by July 15, please contact our office at (404) 613-6100.

- Due dates may vary from year to year. Please see Important Dates on the Home screen in order to determine the due dates for this year.
- Is there a penalty charge for a late payment? Back to top
- For taxes not paid by the due date, interest will begin to accrue on the day following the due date and will continue to accrue on the principal amount each month thereafter, until the bill is paid in full. Additionally, penalty will be charged at a rate of 5% on the 120th day after each due date and will continue to accrue 5% every 120 days after until paid in full or until it reaches to maximum of 20%.

- Yes. We will accept partial payments on your bill until paid in full. However, interest will accrue on the unpaid principal balance if not paid in full by the due date.
- If I did not own my home for the full year, can my taxes be prorated? Back to top
- No. Taxes are calculated for the entire year. If a contractual agreement was made at your closing to designate another party responsible or partly responsible for the payment of taxes, we suggest you contact your closing attorney.
- My mortgage company pays my tax bill; can you mail my bill to the mortgage company? Back to top
- If your mortgage company pays your bill, your tax information will be made available upon request from your mortgage company. To ensure your mortgage company is aware of your taxes, we suggest you forward your coupons to the mortgage company with an explanation.
- I closed my business or no longer own personal property (boats, airplanes, equipment, etc.). Do I have to pay taxes? Back to top
- If the business closed or the property was sold after January 1 of the current tax year, the tax is due. Taxes are assessed as of January 1 for the entire tax year. If the property closed or sold after January 1, you must notify the Board of Tax Assessors at (404) 612-6400.
- Can the interest and penalty be waived since I did not receive a tax bill? Back to top
- No. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve you of the responsibility to make payment by the due date. If you did not receive a tax bill, please contact our office through this website, by telephone, or by visiting one of our locations to request a bill.

- Yes. Note the parcel identification number or the account number on the check or money order and submit it for payment.

- Yes, we honor U.S. Government Post Office Postmarks, only.Meter marks are not honored. Postmarks are only applicable to current year bill due dates. Delinquent payments must be received and processed in our office prior to legal actions.
- When does a Fi.Fa (Tax lien) go on the property? Back to top
- After the last day of payment of taxes the Tax Commissioner will notify the taxpayer in writing that the taxes are outstanding and unless taxes are paid within thirty (30) days, an execution (FiFa) will be issued in accordance with O.C.G.A. §48-3-3. At any time after the 30 day notice has elapsed, the Tax Commissioner shall issue an execution (FiFa) against the owner and the property.

- Tax levy sales are held on the first Tuesday of each month. If that Tuesday falls on a holiday, the sale will take place on the following Wednesday. The sale is held on the Courthouse steps and usually starts at 10:00 a.m. Legal hours of the sale are between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

- Advertisements can be found in the Fulton County Daily Report newspaper and on the Courthouse steps posting boards.
- How can I qualify for Homestead Exemption? Back to top
- To qualify you must own and occupy the property as your legal residence as of January 1 of the current tax year. There is no deadline to apply, however, to receive the exemption for the current year, applications must be filed by April 1 of the current year. Applications filed after April 1 will be considered for the following year. For additional information on eligibility or the proper method of applying for an exemption, you may call the Tax Assessors' Office at (404) 612-6440 or visit www.fultonassessor.org.

- If you feel your property value is not reflective of the fair market value, you should file a Property Tax Return requesting a change in assessment between January 1 and April 1 with the Tax Assessor's Office. For additional information on filing a return, please contact the Tax Assessor's at (404) 612-6440 or you may visit www.fultonassessor.org .
- If I appeal my property value, do I have to pay my property taxes while in appeal? Back to top
- Yes. If your property is under appeal, you will receive a Temporary Tax Bill. You are required to pay the bill by the due date in order to avoid interest and fees. A refund and/or an adjusted bill will be provided after the appeal is resolved.
- What is the current millage rate? Back to top
- Mill rates are set each year by the local governing authorities and are used as variables in computing property taxes. See Millage rates for a listing of rates within Fulton County Unincorporated, City of Atlanta/Fulton County, City of Sandy Springs, City of Johns Creek, City of Mountain Park, City of Chattahoochee Hills, City of South Fulton and Fulton County rates within Incorporated cities for tax years 1959-present.

- In order to change the mailing address for your property tax
bill, you must submit a written request to the Board of Tax
Assessors. Make your request by visiting the website at www.fultonassessor.org and
accessing the Online Filing tab or your request may be mailed
to: Fulton County Board of Tax Assessors, Homestead and Return
