Dear Fulton County Taxpayer:
It has been a privilege serving as the Fulton
County Tax Commissioner since January 1, 1997. During this period,
the Tax Commissioner’s Office has undergone significant
transformations designed to improve accessibility to the office
and provide better service to you, our customers.
Since 1997, we have opened five new offices and
ensured that these new offices are in neighborhoods where you
live, work, and shop. The Tax Commissioner’s Office now
has nine locations to serve you. Long tag lines are now a thing
of the past. Two days each week at the
Dorothy Benson Multi-Purpose Center in North Fulton and the
Harriet G. Darnell Multi-Purpose Center in South Fulton, senior
citizens can conveniently renew their tags at their activity
center.
Our new interactive voice messaging system with
fax-back capabilities allows you to receive information on all
facets of this office without leaving your home or office. In
October 2001, an initiative by the Georgia Technology Authority
enabled the renewal of tags over the internet. Fulton County
was among the first in the State of Georgia to provide this
service to our citizens. In the future, we hope to overcome
the legal and business issues which currently prevent us from
receiving property tax payments over the Internet using credit
cards.
As the laws in Georgia change, the Tax Commissioner’s
Office will continue to adapt our processes to provide the most
efficient tax collection system for the governing authorities.
Since 1997, we have increased the collection rate for property
taxes in Fulton County from 90 percent to 99 percent today.
It is important that the collection rate remains high. Tax revenues
are used by governing authorities to provide services that improve
the quality of life for the residents of Fulton County. A high
collection rate enables the governing authorities to keep Millage
rates down, hence keeping taxes lower.
As circumstances necessitate, I will communicate
with you via this medium on changes in laws and pass along any
information which may affect you. My office will continue to
strive to be effective, accessible, and fair to all the citizens
of this great County.
Sincerely,
Arthur E. Ferdinand
Fulton County Tax Commissioner
